Perth, the isolated city. It’s more than 3000 Km from the own country’s capital (Canberra), surrounded by hot, sandy, empty desert to the east and the indian ocean to the west.
From Perth it’s a shorter flight to Singapore or other Asian destination, than it is to Sydney or Canberra.
For us, after 8000 Km of seeing more wildlife than people, a city is a welcome change. The skyline, downtown, public transport, the city’s botanical garden, restaurants and cafés… as if we saw civilization for the first time :-).
In Perth the first part of our Australia tour comes to an end. We have driven roughly 8225 Km from Darwin in less than 6 weeks, seen plenty of wonderful things, and (as usual) not nearly all there is to see in this unique part of the world. We have the feeling we will be back sooner or later…. but right now, we have a plane to Alice Springs waiting for us, and the famous Red Center is told to be no worse….
