Miami

Initially we hadn’t planned on going to Miami, but our flight from (originally) Quito to Los Angeles had a stopover in Miami. As we saw that we immediately said ” wait a minute…” and quickly changed the couple of hours to two weeks with plans of visiting a bit more of Florida. As time went by, while travelling we started reconsidering our plans and decided that we wanted to have more time for the rest of North America including Hawaii and reduced our Florida trip to a couple of days only in Miami…. and in particular Miami Beach – We don’t need to explain why, right? ;-). So we leave South America behind us and arrive in the States, right on the Ocean Drive to be precise. But written that, we’re still kind of in Latin America. Miami has a large spanish speaking population and in particular little Havanna is one of those neighborhoods where spanish is the main language, and the cuban expats make up more than 80% of the population.

Anyway, the famous Ocean Drive is a symbol for expensive sportscars, partypeople (in particular during spring break which luckily was some months ago), rich people, bars and restaurants with loud music and last but not least the beach, of course. It is really fun to watch these cars driving by slowly on the Ocean Drive with their loud music and the girls passing by with almost nothing on…(and that’s Melina writing here… 😉  ). One could have the party of his life every evening here. The Drinks are huge! The weather is hot, shopping is great, but there is more than just South Beach, and let’s face it, we don’t really fit in the picture we just described…. so we decided to do a Hop-on Hop-off bustour around Miami. Included was the walking tour through little Havanna and heaps of fun, interesting and useless information, which – by now – we have already forgotten :-/. And the pictures are all that remains 😀 😀
