Karijini National Park

Karijini National Park…what a place..!!

We had in mind going there after Broome, and when a Guy, his Name is Gregg and we are going to meet him many other times along the west coast 🙂 , at our Caravanpark told us about this very hot place but with cool pools our decision was made. We need to go there, even if the nights would be hotter than now..

After a delicous “Müesli” for breakfast we headed towards Port Headland, where we could take the Road towards Karijini NP. We stopped at Port Headland for some Lunch. It is a Mining City that tries to appear more modern or attractive also for Tourists. They made a good job so far.. But on the way there and away we passed a lot of Road Trains…and one threw little stones at our windscreen..bad luck, cause we got hit and it was damaged, luckily not in the view area…

The Road through the Park was pretty amazing. We arrived at the campground around 5pm and got straight to the natural pool, a little hike down the first small Gorge. Beautiful.. but nothing compared to what we saw and experienced the next day… 🙂

Up to now we had been following the well marked bush trails with varying difficulty levels up to 4 on a scale from 1 to 5. The walks have always been pretty easy so far, so when we came to this “category 5” sign, we thought: “well, this can’t be much harder than the previous ones…”. We didn’t expect the “spider walk” to actually be more climbing than walking, and the “handrail drop” to be something like abseiling. But we have to say: it was really funny to crawl through this steep and narrow gorge, walk through the water with our backpacks held above our heads, and swimming in the ice cold waters of the different pools. We wish there were more “walks” like that 😀

On top of the fun we had while climbing, jumping, swimming, slipping,…. we were in the middle of a breathtaking scenery. We probably took thousands of pictures, and every single one would have deserved being published here 🙂

Karijini is not on the top 10 List of Australia’s travelers, but in our opinion it should definitely be!!! Enjoy!
